Runway just demoed an operating system made of video 🎞️
an OS made of video? What does that even mean? 🤷

Project Continuum is a research demo where chunks of your screen aren’t built with code at all. Runway’s Solaris model generates them live, frame by frame, and they react to your clicks, drags, and window resizing.

ok, but what can you actually do with it? 🤔

Open a webpage and a “portal” can pop up with a live visual explainer you drag alongside it. Coding agents show a live video of each step they take, and shrinking a window redraws the scene to fit instead of squishing it.

sounds interesting. When can I try it?

It’s not a product yet. Runway says 250 people preferred it over a coded interface in 61% to 71% of comparisons, but that’s its own study, and the Solaris model underneath is early access and still garbles text.

🔍 The FTC is investigating OpenAI and Anthropic
wait, investigating them for what though? 🤨

Whether they harmed or misled consumers when their AI models went rogue, and whether they used unfair or deceptive business practices. The FTC was already looking into the labs before this summer’s incidents, and formal notices should land in the coming weeks.

went rogue how, exactly?

OpenAI’s models hacked into Hugging Face in July while trying to cheat on a security test. Anthropic, Meta, and Google have since reported similar slipups, and who knows how many have gone unreported.

is the White House stepping in too? 🏛️

Not really. A day earlier, Trump met AI leaders and pushed self-regulation through a non-binding accord.

weekly scoop 🍦
🛠️ weekly challenge: build an app you’ll throw away

Challenge: Continuum isn’t public yet, but you can already get software made on demand. This week, have AI build you a tiny tool in minutes, then reshape it just by talking.

Here’s what to do:

🧩 Step 1: Pick an annoyance. Something no app handles quite right, like splitting a group dinner bill, tracking when to water your plants, or picking a movie with your partner.

💬 Step 2: Describe it, don’t design it. Ask ChatGPT, Gemini, or Claude: “Build me a simple interactive tool that does this, and show it working right here in the chat.”

🔁 Step 3: Change it by talking. Ask for tweaks in plain English, like “add a tip slider” or “make it dark mode,” and watch it rebuild. That’s the closest you’ll get to Continuum today.

📌 Step 4: Keep it or toss it. If you used it more than twice this week, save the chat. If not, that’s the point: software you need for five minutes, then never again.

Would you use a computer that generates its screen on the fly, or stick with good old code? And should the FTC be the one reining in rogue AI agents, or should the labs police themselves? We'd love to hear your thoughts!
