🖥️ Meta’s new AI runs on Apple’s desktops
.....Meta and Apple though? I thought they were sworn enemies at this point? 😳

For years, yes. But Meta just released Muse Spark Open, its biggest open model yet, and tuned it to run on Apple’s Mac Studios instead of a data center.

Would you run a powerful AI at home instead of in the cloud?

so can I run it on my MacBook?

That would be nice, but not quite. Apple says four M5 Ultra Mac Studios push out 36+ tokens per second, and even the two-machine minimum runs over $20,000, so it’s a developer toy for now.

is it actually any good though? 🤷

Meta calls it the most capable US open-weight model so far, built for coding and long, multi-step agent work. It’s not Meta’s best model, though, and the license limits some commercial use.

🧬 AI just cloned Photoshop, Excel & your favorite video games
hold on, someone really used AI to clone Photoshop?! 🤯

Pretty much. A developer used AI to build PhotoCraft, a free Photoshop look-alike, plus stand-ins for six more Adobe apps and, this week, Word, Excel and PowerPoint.

Did AI Really Reverse Engineer Every Adobe App?

Where did this even start?

With games. Modders are using AI to rebuild classics like Halo to run in a web browser, and Xbox just set up a lab to explore it.

AI EATS THE WORLD...

There are even rumours of a GTA 6 clone coming before the game even drops. And gaming studios are hitting the panic button.

Ok, but are the clones actually usable?

The game ports often are, like Halo in a browser. The Adobe clones nail the look, not the results, and the Excel and PowerPoint copies are only about 50 to 55% ready for real work.

so who should be worried? 👀

Adobe and Microsoft’s Office team, mostly. Pricey subscriptions get hard to defend when AI can rebuild an app by watching it run, while Xbox is already embracing the game remakes.

weekly scoop 🍦
💻 weekly challenge: run an AI that never leaves your laptop

Challenge: Muse Spark Open needs over $20,000 worth of Macs, but smaller open models run fine on a normal laptop. This week, set up a free, private AI that works even in airplane mode.

Here’s what to do:

🔍 Step 1: Size up your laptop. Ask ChatGPT, Gemini or Claude: “My laptop has [X]GB of RAM and a [chip name]. What size open AI model can I run on it, and what should I expect?”

📥 Step 2: Grab a free app. Download LM Studio, which is free for running models on your own machine. Search for a small model and pick one it says will fit.

✈️ Step 3: Go offline. Switch on airplane mode and give it something you’d never paste into a cloud chatbot, like a medical bill to explain or a tough message to draft.

⚖️ Step 4: Run a taste test. Send the same prompt to your local model and to ChatGPT, Gemini or Claude. Keep the local one for private, simple jobs and save the cloud for heavy lifting.

Would you drop $20,000 to run top-tier AI at home, or is the cloud good enough? And would you swap Photoshop or Excel for a free AI-built clone? We'd love to hear your thoughts!
